In the period May 2000 until October 2002 the Dutch Foundation for Applied Water Research (STOWA) commissioned a project into commonly used as well as newly developed technologies/techniques in the field of wastewater treatment in a number of selected countries. The search focused on techniques, which are used abroad and not used in the Netherlands, and which are assessed for their feasibility in the Netherlands.
For this project a number of countries were selected, known for their prominent role in the field of wastewater treatment. Also the Netherlands was reviewed as reference for other countries.
Altogether 52 techniques were chosen for further elaboration. For each technique a fact sheet was developed, which contains information on the following topics: background of the technique, a description of the principle, design guidelines and technical data, performance, operational stability and maintenance, capital and operating cost, reference installations, suppliers and patents and literature references.
