Two-Dimensional Effluent Filtration
Nowadays the larger WWTP´s have to be increasingly equipped with filtration systems after the advanced biological treatment to comply with the steadily increasing effluent requirements. WWTP?s with a capacity above 100.000 P.E., for example, can only comply with the P - standard if suspended solids (SS) in the effluent can be kept to a minimum.

To improve the separation efficiency, filtration processes have to be used. Apart from three-dimensional, conventional filters, two-dimensional filtration processes, such as cloth filtration and microsieves, can also be used. These were originally employed as ?police filters? after inadequate final clarification units.

The report of the ATV-workgroup 2.8 summarises the state of effluent filtration in Germany and assesses the performance and applicability of various systems.
