Microfiltration
Microfiltration of wastewater effluent is mainly used for disinfection purposes, i.e. to protect the receiving water body if the water is used for recreational purposes or serves as drinking water source. A study was commissioned in 1992 in Berlin in order to test the applicability of microfiltration for germ and P-removal from effluent from municipal WWTP's. The treatment objectives were to reduce the P-concentration from 0,5 mg P/l to < 0,05 mg P/l and the total concentration of coliform germs to <100 germs/ 100 ml.
